Project Overview
Nurses have firsthand knowledge of how healthcare policies affect patient care, staffing, safety, and clinical practice. Yet frontline perspectives are not always represented in healthcare policy discussions.
For this article, I combined clinical nursing experience with medical writing skills to make legislative advocacy practical and accessible for bedside nurses.
My Role
As the RN Clinical Subject Matter Expert and Medical Writer, I developed content that connected healthcare policy to real-world nursing practice while maintaining clinical accuracy, accessibility, and relevance for a professional nursing audience.
Key Contributions
Developed a Micro, Meso, and Macro advocacy framework showing nurses how to engage at the individual, professional, and legislative levels
Translated the legislative process into practical guidance for nurses considering written or oral testimony
Developed a framework for effective legislative testimony using evidence, clinical examples, and professional boundaries
Created a 5-, 10-, and 15-minute advocacy framework to demonstrate how nurses can participate without a major time commitment
Connected legislative issues—including staffing, scope of practice, workplace safety, and patient outcomes—to frontline clinical experience
