Project Type: Virtual Nursing | Nursing Ethics | Patient Safety Content

Role: RN Clinical Subject Matter Expert | Medical Writer

Project Overview

Virtual nursing is changing how nurses provide oversight, support bedside teams, and contribute to patient care. As these models expand, they also raise important questions about patient safety, accountability, scope of practice, and trust.

For this project, I combined RN clinical expertise with medical writing skills to examine the ethical and patient safety considerations of virtual nursing supervision and translate them into practical guidance for nursing leaders and clinicians.

My Role

As the RN Clinical Subject Matter Expert and Medical Writer, I developed content that explored the intersection of virtual care, nursing practice, technology, and ethics while maintaining clinical accuracy and relevance for a professional nursing audience.

Key Contributions

  • Examined how technology failures and virtual communication gaps can affect patient safety and nursing decision-making

  • Explored patient autonomy and informed consent considerations in virtual nursing models

  • Addressed accountability, scope of practice, and governance when care responsibilities are distributed across virtual and bedside teams

  • Examined the risk of de-individuation and the importance of maintaining trust and professional relationships in virtual care

  • Addressed handoffs, coaching versus surveillance, and authority boundaries within virtual nursing supervision

  • Connected ethical considerations to practical strategies for building safe, accountable, and trusting virtual care teams
