Clinical SME Oversight
This analysis was developed by Penny Pratt, RN, CSPI, providing Expert-in-the-Loop review to support clinical accuracy, patient safety, and responsible healthcare communication.
Lyme disease is more than a tick-borne rash. It is a staged, multisystem infection with potential dermatologic, neurologic, cardiac, and musculoskeletal involvement. For this MedReport Foundation article, I applied my clinical expertise to clarify disease progression from early localized infection to disseminated manifestations while evaluating common misconceptions using evidence-based guidance.
By integrating current surveillance data, evidence-based treatment guidelines, and known diagnostic limitations, I developed a clinically grounded resource designed to support patient education, clinician awareness, and responsible public health messaging. The result supports accurate risk communication by addressing both under-recognition and overstatement.
